CWAA Breeze Newsletter September 21-25, 2015

Principal’s Message:

For the past few months my husband and I have been reading a book called My Child, My Child by Dr. Winston Ferris (Theologian and Teacher at Southern Adventist University). The book is written as an encouragement to parents to tap into the power or intercessory prayer for their children. Over the next few months I will be sharing the impactful lessons that Joel and I have been learning through our reading. I will be sharing the lessons in the form of quotes from the book.

In his first chapter, “A Christian Parent’s Tears” Dr. Ferris teaches us four important lessons:

  1. OUR CHILDREN ARE GOD’S CHILDREN FIRST! “One of the most insidious, negative concepts Christian parents carry in the parenting backpack load is this: I and I alone am spiritually responsible for my children. Wrong! First of all, they are not your children alone. Each child is part of God’s family! The Bible says that ‘Adam (and hence Eve) was the child of God’ (Luke 3:38). The first man and woman themselves were part of God’s own family before they ever became parents.”
  2. OUR CHILDREN HAVE THREE PARENTS! “Mankind was given the capacity to partner with God in creating His earth-family. The coming together of a man and wife that produces a new life cannot take place without the personal intervention of the God-partner to begin that life. In the same way, each child born in this world, even under the tragedy of sin, possesses three parents—a biological father, a biological mother and a Divine Father.”
  3. GOD TAKES RESPONSIBILITY FOR OUR CHILDREN. “God holds and takes the ultimate responsibility for all His creation. He assumes joint-responsibility with us in all that has to do with our children. He holds our right to choose, and their right to choose, as sacred. Without choice there can be no growth or development of character.”
  4. GOD HAS A SOLUTION FOR EVERY PROBLEM. “Even when we and our children fumble those choices, even in anger, blasphemy and rebellion, God does not cast us off and allow us to bear the consequences of our choices alone. He does not have to help us, but He chooses to. That is what grace is all about. God finds solutions for our wrong decisions —even before we stumble (Isa. 65:24). He foresees our every need and decrees a solution, and sets that solution in motion even before we experience the resulting crisis and cry out in desperation. We must ask Him, opening the situation to Him. Only then will He, through our willing partnership, take the access we give Him through our intercession and begin to apply His divine solution. Whatever the problem, however extreme the wandering, God has prepared a SOLUTION! Our task is not to struggle on in helplessness, despair and discouragement. Our privilege and challenge is to open our lives to His work as Co-parent and to His highest and best solutions.”

Chaplain’s Message:

“‘With what shall I come before the Lord,
and bow myself before God on high?
Shall I come before him with burnt offerings,
       with calves a year old?
Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams,
with ten thousands of rivers of oil?
Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression,
the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?’
He has told you, O man, what is good;
and what does the Lord require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness,
and to walk humbly with your God?”
(Micah 6:6-8 ESV)
Some qualities that God wants our lives to exhibit are justice, kindness and humility. During the month of September, the character value to be focused on here at CWAA is KINDNESS. In what ways have we been shown kindness today? In what ways have we shown kindness to others today? May God continue to work in us so that He can display His kindness through us to everyone that He brings into our lives!
