CWAA Breeze Newsletter Sept 11 – 15, 2017

CURRICULUM EVENING: We would like to extend a warm invitation to all parents and students for our Curriculum Night this Thursday, September 14, at 7 p.m. in the CWAA gymnasium. Come out and meet your child(ren)’s teachers and talk about what your son or daughter will be learning this year. Learn how you can best help your child(ren) achieve their goals for excellence. We are proud to present our holistic program for your children and look forward to getting to know each one of you better!

PARENT SEMINAR: “Protecting your Children at Home on your Technology Devices” on Thursday, September 14, at 8 p.m. by Education Technology Specialist, Joel Melashenko.

WEEK IN SPIRITUAL EMPHASIS (WISE): The first WISE this school year is underway this week with our guest speaker, Aaron Nakamura. Mr. Nakamura is currently the CFO for Milo Adventist Academy in Oregon. He has been involved in numerous teen mission trips, is a gifted musician, and has had many opportunities to speak to audiences of youth and young adults. For more information about the WISE week, you may contact Pastor Brent Wilson (

ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT FUNDRAISER – ADMAZING COUPON BOOKS: This year our Athletic Department is raising funds to purchase new athletic equipment and sports uniforms. To help raise these funds Mrs. Dodds and Mr. Fowler have distributed one book to each student to take home and sell. The cost of the book is $20.00 and $10 from every sale is kept by the Athletic Department! Thank you for supporting this worthwhile fundraiser! Happy selling! (Please return any unsold books to the office by Friday, September 22. Thank you!)

FIRST HOT LUNCH OF THE YEAR: On Monday, September 25 we will hold our first hot lunch of the year – veggie burgers, chips, cookie and juice. The cost of the hot meal will be $7.00 and the cost of the drink will be $1.00 (order forms have been distributed to home room teachers).  If you’re able to help on this date and have a current police check on file please email Mrs. Elias directly at or text her at 403-830-8640.

NUT ALLERGIES: CWAA strives to be a nut free environment due to serious allergies of some students and staff. Parents, please be vigilant to prevent any nuts from coming to school in your children’s lunches. If your child has an allergy, please remind them not to eat any shared lunch items. Thank you!

CLASSROOM LUNCHES: Parents are encouraged to send lunches in thermos containers rather than sending lunches requiring microwave heating. This will allow children to spend their 20-minutes eating their lunches instead of waiting in line to heat their lunches and not being able to finish eating before outside recess time. Please also remember to provide microwavable containers for lunches that require heating.

  • All students (elementary and secondary) who arrive after 8:30 am should come through the main entrance doors and stop at the office to pick up a late slip.
  • Please inform the office when your child will be absent from school by e-mailing or calling the office.

TERRY FOX RUN: All parents, students and interested community members are invited to join CWAA in participating in The Terry Fox National School Run Day at CWAA on Thursday, September 28. Be part of one of the biggest displays of solidarity against cancer on the planet…while setting an example of compassion, fostering school spirit, encouraging physical activity, and having fun!  More information will be coming soon!  Contact person for this special event is Pastor Wilson,

BEFORE/AFTER SCHOOL CHILD CARE PROGRAM: CWAA is pleased to announce that Valerie Robertson (CWAA Educational Assistant) has been hired to provide Before/After School Care for a limited number of children. To register for the program contact the office. The hours of the Before/After School Child Care Program are from 7-8 am (M-F) and 3:45 pm to 5:30 pm (M-Th) and 1:45 pm to 3:30 pm (Fri). The cost is $6.00 per hour or $1.50 per 15-minute period.

POLICE CHECKS FOR VOLUNTEERS: We want to remind all parent volunteers that CWAA requires police check clearance prior to volunteering at CWAA. If you require a police check letter, please contact the office. THANK YOU for your dedication and support of our school!

FOOD BANK FRIDAY (LAST FRIDAY OF EVERY MONTH): On Friday, September 29 we will hold our first casual dress day of the year. To participate in the casual dress day we ask that each student and staff bring a canned or packaged non-perishable food item to be donated to the Calgary Food Bank.

PARENT COUNCIL:  Are you interested in becoming more involved in our school community? What about initiating school wide improvements? Do you dream of creative solutions to problems or great ideas to implement at CWAA? Are you interested in taking on a leadership role to mobilize parents to support student learning and teachers at CWAA? If you answered YES to any of these questions, and you are willing to serve in a leadership role, please contact the Principal. It has been a number of years since we have had an official Parent Council and we would like to seek your help in implementing this once again this year. Thank you in advance for prayerfully considering becoming involved in this important endeavour!

PRAYING PARENTS: Praying parents will meet this Thursday, September 14, after morning drop off in the school lobby. For those who are new, Praying Parents is a small group of parents, friends & pastors that meets every Thursday morning in the school lobby to pray for our school. Please come and join us!
