Parents Response to April 30 Breeze Principal’s Message on CWAA’s Ranking by the Fraser Institute:

“I wanted to take a moment to say “Thank-you” for your response in “The Breeze” newsletter re your philosophy on the Fraser Institute Report and standardized tests. Coming from the perspective of a former classroom teacher and now parent, I concur that standardized tests CANNOT measure initiative, creativity, imagination, conceptual thinking, curiosity, effort, judgment, commitment, nuance, good will, ethical reflection, character, or a host of other valuable dispositions and attributes. When Dave and I were considering a change in schools for our daughter, our school selection was based on a school that honoured the WHOLE child, and one that had a genuine culture of caring and dare I say LOVE within its walls. We have seen teachers at CWAA write notes to our child, engage her, have lunch with her, respond to her heart. Teachers that listen carefully to what kids say and remember details about their lives. Teachers and staff that expect this of themselves and their students as well. This school has shown our daughter that relationships, connection, community and a feeling of “we care about you…..” is what they value. They push their students to reach their potential, yes, expectations are definitely there, but they do not “teach to the test”, thank goodness! That has been our experience this past year.  If school selection is based solely on test results you’re not getting a valid picture of learning, you’re getting a reflection of students having been drilled to beat a particular test.” Anne-Marie (parent of Grade 6 student)

“Thanks for sharing in this week’s BREEZE. It’s a valid question from parents on what kind of academic education our kids are receiving. You nailed it with looking at the WHOLE picture. And the stats were nice to know as well.” Jeremy (parent of Grade 2, 4, 7 students)

Chaplain’s Message:

“When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good. But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God’s condemnation. For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son.” (Romans 5:6–10 NLT).

Do you know the Son? If not, why not make the choice to get to know Him today!
