CWAA HOSTS PARENTING WORKSHOP: “Protecting your Children at Home on your Technology Devices” by Education Technology Specialist, Joel Melashenko on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at 6:30 p.m.

UPDATE ON PARENT WORKSHOP: In our seminar last Thursday by Joy Astolfi on “The Impact of Excessive Media Use on Adolescent Development and Social Adjustment” we were incredibly blessed by Ms. Asolfi’s professional, thorough and research-based seminar. Ms. Astolfi’s engaging and informative presentation included: Identifying the Problems with Excessive Media Use (ex: Depression Risk for Teens from Social Media, Effects of Sexually Explicit Online Materials on young children, Effects of Scene Changes on Attention, Gamma Waves and Why GAMMA brainwaves are important, How TV Affects Brainwaves, TV Watching and Violence Rates.) Ms. Astolfi presented two critical book resources including “Reset Your Child’s Brain” by Dr. Dunckley. Dr. Dunckley is a psychiatric doctor who has researched Electronic Screen Syndrome (ESS) and has determined ESS accounts for the majority of the increase in psychosocial and neurodevelopmental issues in children. In her book, Dr. Dunckley describes the symptoms of ESS and prescribes a strict electronic fast and presents her findings. The second resource Ms. Astolfi produced was “Your Brain on Porn”, Internet pornography and the emerging science of addiction. Ms. Astolfi ended the seminar on the following encouragement for parents: 1. Persevere, God will honour your sincere efforts, 2. Ask for wisdom – James 1:5, 3. You are not alone – support each other, form a prayer group – Heb. 13:5. “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” (Philippians 4:8) (If you would like the notes from this important seminar, please email Lara Melashenko.)

KITCHEN DEVELOPMENT AT CWAA: I wanted to share some exciting news with you! Recently our school received a generous donation of $10,000, which the Board decided to designate towards developing a kitchen! This kitchen will be important to provide a Foods Options to our students as well as provide kitchen space to church rental groups. Chris Babbitt (Board Chairman) has agreed to take on the project management role of designing & building the kitchen (to be completed over the summer holidays). Because we anticipate the total cost of designing, building and purchasing kitchen appliances will exceed the allocated donation, we are seeking to fundraise to help with this project! Our first fundraiser will take place on the evening of Thursday, March 22 at the Constituency Meeting. On this day, the Adventist Book Centre (ABC) Bookmobile will be set up at CWAA and have generously donated burgers for our event. We thank God for continuing to provide for our needs, and even many of our ‘wants’!

GRADE 9 FUNDRAISER: They will be selling “Sweet Treats” on Tuesdays to Elementary students at lunchtime and to the Secondary students on Tuesdays and Thursdays.   Prices are based on items available and are usually priced between $0.50 and $1.00.  Thank you for your support!

PRAYING PARENTS: Join in for a time of praise and prayer. All are welcome as this group meets every Thursday morning at 8:45 a.m. in the lobby.

Chaplain’s Message:

Why are those words important? They give us confidence that the Jesus who died for our sins was not just some random human being. He was not just some powerless useless person who was executed like so many criminals were in the Roman Empire. He is the all powerful Son of God! He is the conquerer of death and the grave! When we put our faith in Him, there is hope and assurance of eternal life after the grave! Praise God for the resurrection!  HE IS RISEN!
