The Breeze

CWAA Breeze Newsletter January 11 – 15, 2016

CAUGHT YOU WITH CHARACTER (Unselfishness): During the month of December we emphasized the character of God – Unselfishness (“Do not be interested only in your own life, but be interested in the lives of others.” Philippians 2:4). As a school staff we placed our attention on teaching the students about how God desires us to consider the needs of others better than ourselves and how we should be unselfish in our choices. As part of our monthly plan, we intentionally recognized students who engaged in acts of unselfishness to others by “catching them” and sharing their act with the school! We are thrilled to recognize Shelshaunte Young (Grade 7 student) and Elolam Nlandu (Kindergarten student) for their unselfish acts during the month of December. To recognize these two students, we have displayed their pictures along with an introduction and the specific acts of protecting others on the bulletin boards in our hallways.

CWAA CHARACTER VALUE FOR JANUARY:  During the month of January we are focusing on the character of God – Perseverance. And we also have joy with our troubles because we know that these troubles produce patience. And patience produces character, and character produces hope.” Romans 5:3-4

MORNING DROP-OFF PROCEDURES IN PARKING LOT:  When dropping your children off, please park in the parking lot and allow your children to exit the vehicle. Please do not park in bus zones (in front of school) between 8:15 – 8:45 a.m. and 3:00 – 3:45 p.m.  Between these times CWAA has 4 school buses that arrive to drop off students and it is critical that there are no vehicles blocking access. Thank you for your cooperation and support in ensuring an orderly and safe parking lot usage!

JUNIOR HIGH PARENT-TEACHERS CONFERENCES: On February 2, 2016 from 4-8 p.m., all Grades 7-9 parents are cordially invited to book a time to discuss their child’s mid-year progress with their child’s teachers. Please contact the office at 403-286-5686 or email for an appointment. Thank you for your support and interest in your child’s academic progress!

CWAA VESPERS & BAPTISM POSTPONED: The vespers and baptism service that was scheduled for January 15 at CWAA has been postponed. Watch for details later this school year.

CWAA ANTI-BULLYING AWARENESS WEEK: February 1-5, 2016 CWAA is proud to be participating in an Anti-Bullying Awareness Week. We are participating in this important event because we know our school (just like any other school) is not immune to bullying and we can make a difference through education and awareness! Because bullying is a community issue (and not solely a school problem), we invite all community members (parents, pastors, community partners) to join us!  We intend to use this week to build relationships among our students, educate our community (students and parents) about bullying behaviors and how to stop bullying, and engage in acts of compassion! Some of the activities that we will be doing during the week include classroom pairings to build relationships and empathy skills, Anti-Bullying Chapels, Dress Up Day! (Thursday), and wear ‘Stand Up To Bullying’ Bracelets. Parents, please join us in prayer as we use this event to continue building a culture of respect and compassion at CWAA! Please take the time to speak with your children about this important topic.

OPEN HOUSE: Coming up! On Thursday, February 18, CWAA will be hosting our annual Open House from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. We invite all current families to bring interested friends and family members to check us out. All CWAA families will be receiving five Open House Invitation Cards to give out to personal friends. Please partner with us in promoting our great school and give those Invitation Cards out. There will be Door Prize draws for both new families and current families who accompany them. We look forward to seeing you!

GRADES 5-12 AWARDS ASSEMBLY ON TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 2016:  All parents are invited to come out and celebrate our academic award recipients (Principal’s List, Honors with Distinction and Honors) and student nominees for Christ-like Character, Citizenship, Personal Best, Most Improved, Athletes of the Term and Perfect Attendance Awards. Our Awards Assembly will take place during our Secondary Chapel time (9:30 – 10:20 a.m.). For those parents who are unable to attend, we will also be conducting an evening Awards Ceremony at the end of the year to recognize all students who achieved academic excellence and other areas of excellence during the 2015-2016 school year.

PRAYING PARENTS: Thursday morning at 8:45 a.m. in the lobby. Come join in for a time of praise and prayer.

FUNDSCRIP ORDER DATES: Please remember to support our FundScrip mission trip fundraiser. Buy gift cards at face value for the grocery stores, gas stations, clothing stores, and restaurants that you normally visit. FundScrip pays Chinook Winds a percentage of the value of the gift card. This fundraiser doesn’t cost you anything, and is a great way to help us raise money for the 2017 CWAA Mission Trip to Bolivia. Please turn your orders in to the CWAA office with cash or cheque payment by the following dates: February 8 and/or March 7. You will receive your gift cards within about 1 week after the order date. Chaplain’s Message:

It is important to be building our spiritual lives on God’s word. Not only do we need to take the time to Be Still and allow God to speak to us through His word, we also need to be willing to follow His word in our lives! May God graciously give us the strength and wisdom that we need to apply His word to our lives in practical ways and to truly follow Him this year!

“Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.” (Matthew 7:24-27 NLT)
