The Breeze – February 3-7, 2014

JUNIOR HIGH PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES: Tuesday, February 4 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.  All Grades 7-9 parents are invited to book a time to discuss their child’s mid-year progress with their teachers.  These meetings will be parent-teacher led.  To book a time with your child’s teachers, please contact the office at 403-286-5686 or email reception@nullcwaa.net. Our next Student-Led Conferences will be held March 20, 2014. Thank you for your support and interest in your child’s academic progress!

GRADES 5-12 AWARDS ASSEMBLY ON TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 2014 – All parents are invited to come out and celebrate our Terms 1 & 2 academic award recipients (Principal’s List, Honors with Distinction and Honors) and student nominees for Christ-like Character, Citizenship, Personal Best, Most Improved, Athletes of the Term and Perfect Attendance Awards. Our Awards Assembly will take place during our Secondary Chapel time (9:30 – 10:20 a.m.). For those parents who are unable to attend, we will also be conducting an evening Awards Ceremony at the end of the year to recognize all students who achieved academic excellence and other areas of excellence during the 2013-2014 school year.

ELEMENTARY SWIMMING PROGRAM : Starts Thursday, February 6. Please ensure you send your child’s permission form back to the school as soon as possible. Parent volunteers with up to date criminal police checks are welcome to participate. Please contact your child’s teacher if you can help.

ALBERTA SCIENCE FAIR: On Thursday, February 13, our Junior High students are participating in Parkview Adventist Academy’s annual Science Fair. They will take part in a friendly competitive exhibition, with “techy” prizes available for the winners. This is our first time attending and we are excited to see all the projects.

PARKING LOT SAFETY REMINDERS:  Just a reminder to our school families to yield to pedestrians using the crosswalks in the upper parking lot as well as yielding to buses coming up the hill before you proceed to drive down the road.

MUSIC DEPARTMENT: Fundraising for their upcoming trip to Los Angeles in May.  We have two campaigns going on right now:

1.  Bottle Drive – Students will be going door to door in their community in February and March to collect bottles to recycle and use the profits to fund their trip.  Parents, community members, church members and staff, please consider sending your recyclable bottles to the school to help raise money for our students to attend this trip.

2.  Cookie Dough Fundraiser – February 3-17 – Students from the Music Department will be selling frozen cookie dough.  This is a product made in Edmonton.  There are 10 flavors to choose from and each tub makes 5 dozen cookies and costs $15.  Our goal is to have each student in the High School Music program sell a minimum of 20 tubs.   Please contact a high school music student or e-mail me at rmiranda@nullcwaa.net to place an order.

Thank you for supporting these worthwhile fundraisers.

ALBERTA EDUCATION ACCOUNTABILITY PILLER SURVEY – It’s that time of year where Alberta Education is seeking your input about the education we are delivering at CWAA! From January to the end of February, Alberta Education will be conducting its annual “Accountability Pillar Survey”. The Accountability Pillar Survey assesses various aspects of quality; student outcomes, provincial assessments of student learning, community engagement and satisfaction, school experience, etc. Within the next few weeks, all CWAA parents will receive a survey from Alberta Education in the mail. In February, CWAA students and all teachers will be completing their surveys online at school.  All surveys are anonymous. In addition to English and French, the parent survey is available in Chinese, Punjabi, Arabic, Blackfoot, Cree, Korean, Spanish and Tagalog. Your participation in the survey helps provide important information on the quality of education your child is receiving at CWAA, so we encourage you to return your survey promptly. Survey results will be available to school authorities in May 2014. Thank you for your participation in this important process!

Chaplain’s Message

“So the Word became human and made His home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen His glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.” (John 1:14 NLT).

Jesus came to earth to live “among us,” to show us what God is actually like, and to die in our place. But, sadly, many people throughout history have not made the choice to accept Him as their Saviour. Have you accepted Him? If not, why not invite Him into your life today? Have you already accepted Him? Why not recommit to that choice today?

“Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.” (Revelation 3:20 NLT
