CWAA CHARACTER VALUE FOR MAY: During the month of May we are focusing on the character of God – Truthfulness. “Only fear the Lord and serve Him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great things He has done for you.” 1 Samuel 12:24
FORT MCMURRAY FRIDAY: CWAA is committed to helping Fort McMurray through a fundraising Casual Friday on May 13th. Students who wear casual clothes are asked to bring a minimum $5.00 donation that will be given to ADRA who is partnering with the Red Cross in a joint endeavor to best assist those who have been affected by this tragic fire disaster.
TEACHER PROFESSIONAL DAYS: Next week Thursday, May 19th and Friday, May 20th all CWAA teachers will have Professional Days and there is no school for students. Monday, May 23rd is Victoria Day holiday and school will begin again on Tuesday, May 24th.
CWAA RECEIVES VISIT FROM NDP MLA DEBORAH DREVER: On Friday, May 6 the Grade 6 class received a surprise visit from our local MLA, Deborah Drever and her assistant, Harrison! Ms. Drever and Harrison dropped by CWAA to talk to the Grade 6 students about the Alberta Government and to deliver a special book to the Grade 6 students to match their Social Studies curriculum called, “My Alberta Legislature – Cool Things Not Everyone Knows About This Place”. (Ms. Drever also left some excellent reading books for our library!) Ms. Drever was very impressed by our student’s knowledge of local government. A good number of our students were able to name their local MLA for their local riding as well as ask some very intelligent questions (“Why do you think you were elected?” “Have you ever met the Premier”, “If you had some advice to give someone who wanted to run for MLA, what would you advise?” “How old are you?!”) Following her visit with the Grade 6 students, Ms. Drever received a tour of our school by Mrs. Melashenko. Ms. Drever committed to helping our school in promoting upcoming events on her website, such as our Kindergarten Open House on Friday, June 10! The visit was an excellent opportunity to share our program with an influential citizen in our city!
CWAA STAR: The Student Association’s annual Talent Show “STAR” will be held on Wednesday, May 18th. Time of performances will be announced prior to this day.
SEASON-END FOOTBALL CELEBRATION: On Thursday, May 5th Mr. & Mrs. Brewster treated our Football team with a special treat to wrap-up the flag football season! We would like to say a special “thank you” to John Brewster for his dedication and time commitment to mentoring and coaching our high school students through to their Football Tournament in the Fraser Valley.

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’” (Matthew 25:40 NIV).
What are we willing to do for those who are in need? There are great needs around us! The challenging economy and loss of jobs means that the Calgary Food Bank is serving a lot of people. The fire in the Fort McMurray area has left thousands of people without a home – some temporarily and some more long-term. Depression, bullying, health issues – the list could go on much longer. We live in a world where people are hurting and suffering and struggling. How does Jesus want me to serve the needy around me today?
