CWAA ANTI-BULLYING AWARENESS WEEK: February 1-5, 2016 CWAA is proud to be participating in an Anti-Bullying Awareness Week. We are participating in this important event because we know our school (just like any other school) is not immune to bullying and we can make a difference through education and awareness! Because bullying is a community issue (and not solely a school problem), we invite all community members (parents, pastors, community partners) to join us!  We intend to use this week to build relationships among our students, educate our community (students and parents) about bullying behaviors and how to stop bullying, and engage in acts of compassion! Some of the activities that we will be doing during the week include classroom pairings to build relationships and empathy skills, Anti-Bullying Chapels, Dress Up Day! (Thursday), and wear ‘Stand Up To Bullying’ Bracelets. Parents, please join us in prayer as we use this event to continue building a culture of respect and compassion at CWAA! Please take the time to speak with your children about this important topic.

GRADES 5-12 AWARDS ASSEMBLY ON TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 2016:  All parents are invited to come out and celebrate our academic award recipients (Principal’s List, Honors with Distinction and Honors) and student nominees for Christ-like Character, Citizenship, Personal Best, Most Improved, Athletes of the Term and Perfect Attendance Awards. Our Awards Assembly will take place during our Secondary Chapel time (9:30 – 10:20 a.m.). ALBERTA EDUCATION ACCOUNTABILITY PILLAR SURVEY: It’s that time of year when Alberta Education is seeking your input about the education we are delivering at CWAA! From January to the end of February, Alberta Education will be conducting its annual “Accountability Pillar Survey”. The Accountability Pillar Survey assesses various aspects of quality; student outcomes, provincial assessments of student learning, community engagement and satisfaction, school experience, etc. Within the next few weeks, all CWAA parents will receive a survey from Alberta Education in the mail. In February, CWAA students and all teachers will be completing their surveys online at school.  All surveys are anonymous. In addition to English and French, the parent survey is available in Chinese, Punjabi, Arabic, Blackfoot, Cree, Korean, Spanish and Tagalog. Your participation in the survey helps provide important information on the quality of education your child is receiving at CWAA, so we encourage you to return your survey promptly and directly to Alberta Education. Survey results will be available to school authorities in May 2016. Thank you for your participation in this important process!

Chaplain’s Message:

dirt-698869_1280Recently, I have been doing some reading about gardening. This year I hope to get our backyard finished up and put in some garden boxes where my family and I can plant some vegetables and
other plants. With the cost of produce these days, growing some of our food makes a lot of sense! But in our short Calgary area growing season, it is important to make sure that the soil and growing conditions are ideal so that our future garden will yield abundant results!

But how about the soil of your life and my life? Are the growing conditions optimum in our lives so that the truth of God’s kingdom is able to grow? Or is the soil too shallow and rocky or packed down or full of thorns? I invite you to take some time this week to Be Still and read Matthew 13:1-9 and 13:18-23 and think about the type of soil that your life produces. Ask God to work in your life to make your soil into the good soil that will allow His kingdom to grow abundantly in your life!
