Calgary Flood Special Announcement

Dear Parents, Students, and Community Members,

As we continue to watch the situation unfold in Calgary, our prayers and concern go out to all our families, staff and brothers and sisters throughout the city who have been affected by the floods. Our priority as a school, as always, remains the safety and well being of our students and families.

Last night Alberta Education released a statement with a decision regarding a recommended school approach to the remaining exams. This approach applies to students in the Calgary Board of Education, Catholic School District, charter and private schools within the City of Calgary. (To read the details of Alberta Education’s statement, go to http://education.alberta.ca/department/newsroom/albertafloodsfaq.aspx .)

As a supportive member of the Calgary Educational community and in keeping with Alberta Education and Calgary Emergency Management Agency (CEMA), Chinook Winds Adventist Academy would like to make the following announcement:

  • Diploma Exams: Full exemptions for all remaining diplomas will be provided for all students. No paperwork or action is required by the student to receive an exemption for any remaining Diploma Exams. Students and families are urged to make the decision that is best for them and not take unnecessary risks to get to CWAA. If students opt not to write the exam, their teacher awarded class mark will be their final grade. If a student would like to write a diploma exam, CWAA will remain open to facilitate this choice. Grade 12 students who choose to write the Physics 30 Diploma Exam must come to the school at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 26.
  • Non-Diploma Exams (Grades 10-11 Exams): All remaining non-diploma exams for all students will be cancelled and students will receive their teacher awarded class mark as their final grade.
  • The Awards Ceremony previously scheduled for Wednesday, June 26 has been cancelled.

CWAA will be open at 8:00 a.m. Monday morning, June 24 and will remain open until Thursday noon, June 27. Students who wish to collect personal belongings or drop off textbooks are more than welcome to come by the school during business (8:00 – 4:00 p.m.) hours at their convenience.

We would like to thank our CWAA community for its patience as our team has been working throughout the weekend to receive and verify information from Alberta Education and the City of Calgary. We wish you God’s continued protection and blessing as you recover from the flooding and move into the summer months,

In Him,

Lara Melashenko

Principal
